Privacy Policy

The short version

  • • Your trip checklists and plans are stored on your device, not on our servers.
  • • You can browse and use the planner without an account; an account only adds cross-device sync.
  • • We don't sell your data, ever.
  • • You can delete everything at any time.

1. Who we are

WayUpThere ("we", "us") provides backcountry trip-planning tools. This policy explains what information we handle and why.

2. Data stored on your device

The trips you build — your inputs, checked items, and search-and-rescue trip-plan details — are saved locally in your browser (using local storage / IndexedDB). This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us unless you explicitly enable syncing to an account. Clearing your browser data, or using the reset option in the planner, removes it.

3. Accounts & sync

If you create an account, we store the minimum needed to authenticate you (such as your email address) and to sync the trips you choose to save across your devices. We use this information only to operate the Service — to log you in, sync your data, and contact you about your account or safety-critical notices.

4. Emergency-contact information

A trip plan may include details about your emergency contacts and route. This information is stored the same way as the rest of your trip (on your device, or synced to your account if enabled) and is used only to produce the plan you generate. It is your responsibility to have permission to share a contact's details.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent your personal information.
  • We don't use your trip contents for advertising.
  • We don't share your data except as needed to run the Service or as required by law.

6. Analytics & logs

We may collect limited, aggregated usage and error information to keep the Service reliable. Where used, this is minimized and not used to identify you personally.

7. Your choices

  • Use the planner without an account to keep everything on-device.
  • Delete a trip, or reset the planner, to remove local data.
  • If you have an account, request export or deletion of your synced data by contacting us.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by a new effective date.
